FAQs
What types of fabrics is Vilene Vlieseline H609 best suited for?
It is ideal for light to medium weight elastic stretch knit fabrics, such as jersey, lycra, and other similar materials that require stretch and flexibility.
How do I ensure the best adhesion?
Always test on a fabric remnant first. Use a hand iron, press each area for 10 seconds, and allow the fused pieces to cool completely flat for about 30 minutes before handling.
Can I use this on woven fabrics?
This interfacing is specifically designed for stretch knit fabrics. It may not provide the desired results or might alter the hand feel significantly on woven fabrics.
How should I cut the interfacing?
The interfacing should always be cut in a lengthwise direction, following the grain of the fabric it will be applied to.
What is the hand feel of this interfacing?
It offers a very soft and elegant hand feel, maintaining the natural drape and comfort of your stretch fabrics.
How many times can I iron it?
The excellent adhesive coating provides outstanding adhesion after many cycles of care treatment, meaning it holds up well through washing.
What happens if I don't let it cool properly?
Not allowing the interfacing to cool flat for the recommended 30 minutes can result in the adhesive not setting correctly, potentially leading to peeling or poor adhesion over time.
Troubleshooting
Interfacing is not adhering properly
Ensure your iron is hot enough (test on a fabric remnant first), press for the full 10 seconds, and ensure the adhesive side is facing the fabric. Make sure the fabric is clean and free of any finishes that might interfere with adhesion. Allow sufficient cooling time.
Fabric puckers after fusing
Reduce the iron temperature slightly and the pressing time. Ensure you are not moving the iron back and forth too much during pressing; use a firm, stationary press. Check that the fabric is lying flat before and during ironing.
Interfacing feels too stiff
This interfacing is designed to be soft. If it feels too stiff, ensure you are using the correct fabric type (light to medium weight stretch knits). Check iron temperature; excessive heat can sometimes alter the feel.
Interfacing stretches out of shape
Confirm that the interfacing is cut in the lengthwise direction and aligned with the fabric grain. Ensure you are pressing, not ironing (sliding the iron), to avoid stretching the interfacing during application.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Maintains fabric stretch and recovery
Provides a soft, non-stiff finish
Easy to apply with a standard iron
Durable adhesion through washing
Suitable for a wide range of knit fabrics
Cons
Requires a test application to ensure adhesion
Potential for shrinkage if iron temperature is too high
May not be suitable for very heavy or stiff fabrics
Cooling time is critical for proper bond setting
Must be cut following the lengthwise grain
Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Place the interfacing with the adhesive-coated side (the fitted side) onto the wrong side of your fabric.
Ensure the interfacing is cut in the lengthwise direction to follow the fabric's grain.
Using a hand iron set to the appropriate temperature for your fabric (test first), press each area firmly for approximately 10 seconds.
Crucially, allow the fused pieces to cool completely flat for about 30 minutes. This allows the adhesive to set properly and ensures a strong bond.
Compatibility:
Primarily designed for light to medium weight elastic stretch knit fabrics, such as jersey, interlock, and other knits that have significant stretch in both directions.
Not recommended for woven fabrics or very heavy, non-stretch materials.
Care:
The interfacing offers outstanding adhesion after many cycles of care treatment.
Follow the care instructions of your garment's main fabric. Typically, machine washable according to fabric guidelines.
Avoid excessive heat or harsh chemical treatments that could degrade the adhesive.
