The Humbrol Modelcote Gloss Cote Varnish is a premium solution for scale modelers and hobbyists looking to seal and enhance their projects with a durable, high-sheen finish. Formulated to provide a clear, non-yellowing protective layer, it is ideal for finishing plastic kits like polystyrene and ABS, as well as MDF surfaces. While it offers excellent clarity and protection, users should note that as a solvent-based product, it requires proper ventilation and specific thinners for airbrushing applications.

It is generally recommended to test on a small, inconspicuous area first as the solvents in the varnish may react with certain water-based paints.
You should wait at least 24 hours to ensure the first coat is fully cured before applying a second layer.
Use only in well-ventilated areas due to the solvent-based nature of the product.
Always use Humbrol Enamel Thinners for cleaning brushes used with this product.
Yes, it is compatible with MDF surfaces, though ensure the MDF is sealed or painted first.
While surface dry is achieved in one hour, the chemical process requires 24 hours to fully cure; do not attempt to force-dry with heat, as this can affect the finish.
This is often caused by high humidity during application. Allow the model to dry in a temperature-controlled environment.
Add more Humbrol Enamel Thinners in small increments until the mixture flows smoothly through the airbrush.
Use a softer, higher-quality brush and avoid over-working the varnish; let it self-level as it dries.
To prepare the varnish, ensure your model is completely dry and free of dust. If airbrushing, mix the varnish with Humbrol Enamel Thinners until you achieve the consistency of light cream. Always test the varnish on a scrap piece of the same material before applying it to your final project. For cleaning, brushes must be cleaned immediately after use with Humbrol Enamel Thinners. Airbrushes require a thorough flushing with the same solvent to prevent residue buildup in the needle or nozzle. Always store the glass bottle tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
