FAQs

What type of pipe does this adaptor connect to?

This adaptor is specifically designed to connect to 25mm MDPE (Medium Density Polyethylene) pipe.

What size thread does the other end have?

The other end has a 3/4 inch male thread, suitable for connecting to standard female threaded fittings.

Is this fitting suitable for high-pressure systems?

Yes, John Guest fittings are engineered for strength and reliability and are suitable for standard water pressure applications.

How do I ensure a leak-free seal?

Ensure the MDPE pipe is fully inserted, the nut is tightened correctly, and the 3/4 inch threaded connection is properly sealed using appropriate methods like PTFE tape if needed.

Can I use this with any type of 3/4 inch fitting?

It is compatible with standard 3/4 inch male threaded fittings. Ensure the fitting you are connecting to is designed to accept this thread size.

Are these fittings suitable for potable water?

Troubleshooting

Leak at the 25mm pipe connection

Ensure the pipe is fully inserted into the fitting and the nut is tightened securely. Check the pipe end for damage or imperfections and re-cut if necessary. Verify the retaining collar is correctly positioned.

Leak at the 3/4" threaded connection

Ensure the male thread is clean and free of debris. Check that the female fitting is not damaged. Use appropriate PTFE tape or sealant on the male thread if the female fitting does not have an integrated seal, and tighten securely.

Difficulty inserting the 25mm pipe

Make sure the pipe end is cut perfectly square and is free of any deformation. Slightly warming the pipe end with warm water (not heat gun) can sometimes make insertion easier.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Ensures a secure and leak-free connection between different pipe and fitting types.
  • Durable construction designed for long-term reliability.
  • Easy to install with standard compression fitting techniques.
  • Suitable for a wide range of plumbing applications involving MDPE pipe.
  • Cost-effective when purchasing in bulk for multiple projects.

Cons

  • Supplied in packs of 20, which may be excessive for small, one-off repairs.
  • Requires specific tools for pipe preparation and tightening.
  • Not suitable for use with pipe sizes other than 25mm MDPE on one end.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Ensure the 25mm MDPE pipe is cut square and clean. Remove any burrs or debris from the pipe end.
  2. Unscrew the nut from the adaptor body.
  3. Slide the nut onto the MDPE pipe, followed by the retaining collar.
  4. Push the MDPE pipe firmly into the adaptor body, ensuring it is fully seated against the internal stop.
  5. Slide the retaining collar down onto the pipe and tighten the nut firmly using appropriate wrenches. Do not overtighten.
  6. Screw the 3/4 inch male threaded end into the corresponding female fitting.

Compatibility:

  • Compatible with 25mm MDPE (Medium Density Polyethylene) pipe.
  • Compatible with standard 3/4 inch male threaded fittings (e.g., BSP threads).

Care:

  • No specific ongoing care is required for the fitting itself. Periodically check connections for any signs of leakage, especially after initial installation or significant system pressure changes.
