Full details
The Seiko Melody In Motion Wall Clock (QXM379S) is designed for homeowners who appreciate the intersection of classic horology and automated performance art. Its primary benefit is the unique, rotating dial movement paired with a diverse 18-song melody selection, making it an excellent focal point for living rooms or grand entryways; however, users should be aware that its size and mechanical movement require ample wall space and periodic battery replacements.

FAQs
Can I turn off the music entirely?
Yes, most Seiko Melody in Motion models include a volume dial that can be set to silent or off.
How long do the batteries last?
Under normal usage, a set of high-quality C-cell batteries typically lasts about 6 to 9 months.
Is the clock face protected by glass?
Yes, the clock features a protective crystal to keep the internal rotating mechanisms free from dust and debris.
Does the clock adjust for Daylight Savings Time?
No, this model uses a standard quartz movement and requires manual adjustment of the hands when the time changes.
Can I choose which song plays?
The clock generally cycles through the 18 melodies in a pre-set order each hour; you cannot lock it to a single specific song.
Troubleshooting
The clock is not playing music on the hour.
Check if the night sensor is triggered by low room lighting or if the volume is set to the lowest/muted position.
The dial segments are not rotating correctly.
Ensure the clock is mounted perfectly level. If the clock is tilted, gravity can cause the mechanical gears to misalign.
The music sounds distorted or slows down.
This is a primary indicator that the 4 C-cell batteries are low. Replace all batteries simultaneously for consistent performance.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- High-quality craftsmanship with an elegant silver finish
- Diverse melody library prevents auditory fatigue
- Automatic nighttime shut-off feature ensures quiet evenings
- Adjustable volume caters to different room sizes
Cons
- Requires 4 C-cell batteries, which are larger and heavier than standard AAs
- The mechanical motion necessitates a sturdy wall mounting
- Limited to one aesthetic color finish (Silver)
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To set up your Seiko Melody in Motion clock, start by installing four fresh C-cell batteries into the rear compartment, observing the correct polarity. Once powered, use the adjustment buttons on the side to set the time; since the clock operates on a 12-hour cycle, ensure your AM/PM setting is correct so the music triggers during daylight hours. Compatibility-wise, the clock is best suited for indoor use in temperature-controlled environments, as extreme heat or cold can affect the quartz movement and battery efficiency. To clean, use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to dust the silver finish and the glass crystal. Avoid liquid cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the metallic coating or the sensitive internal electronic sensors.
