FAQs

What is the main advantage of using hemp paper?

The primary advantage is its eco-friendliness, as hemp is a sustainable and rapidly renewable resource. It also offers unique texture and archival qualities for fine art printing.

Is this paper suitable for all inkjet printers?

It is suitable for most pigment and dye-based inkjet printers. However, achieving the best results may require specific ICC profiles and correct printer settings.

How does the matte finish benefit my prints?

The matte finish reduces glare, making it ideal for viewing prints from different angles and in various lighting conditions. It also provides a classic, elegant look favored in fine art and photography.

Will the colors fade over time?

The paper is acid and lignin-free and does not contain optical brighteners (OBAs), which significantly contributes to the longevity of prints. When stored and displayed properly, colors are highly resistant to fading.

Can I use this paper for graphic design or text documents?

While primarily designed for fine art and photography, its quality and clarity make it suitable for high-impact text or graphic elements where a premium feel is desired. However, its cost and specific coating might make it less economical for large volumes of standard text.

What does '290 g/m²' mean?

'290 g/m²' refers to the media weight, indicating that each square meter of the paper weighs 290 grams. This is a substantial weight, giving the paper a premium, durable feel.

How does hemp fiber compare to cotton for paper?

Hemp fibers are known for their extreme robustness and longevity, historically used for durable documents. They provide a strong base for paper that is often more sustainable to produce than cotton.

Troubleshooting

Ink bleeding or poor color saturation

Ensure you are using the correct ICC profile for the Hahnemühle Hemp paper and your printer. Verify that your printer's driver settings are correctly configured for the paper type and weight.

Paper jamming in the printer

Check that the paper is loaded correctly according to your printer's manual. Ensure you are not overloading the paper tray and that the paper guides are set properly. Try printing one sheet at a time.

Prints appear dull or lack contrast

Confirm that you are printing in the highest quality print mode available for your printer. Check your image editing software for any unintended color shifts or contrast adjustments before printing.

Streaks or banding in the print

Perform a print head cleaning cycle through your printer's maintenance utility. Ensure the paper is feeding evenly and check for any obstructions in the paper path.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

To achieve optimal results, it is recommended to use custom ICC profiles tailored for the Hahnemühle Hemp 290gsm paper with your specific printer model. Consult your printer manufacturer's website or Hahnemühle's support resources for available profiles or guidance on creating custom ones. Ensure your printer is set to handle heavyweight papers, and select the appropriate paper type from your print driver settings (often listed under FineArt Matte, Photo Rag, or a specific Hahnemühle profile).

Compatibility:

This paper is designed for use with pigment and dye inkjet printers. It is not suitable for laser printers or offset printing.

Care:

Store the paper in its original packaging in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and humidity.
Handle prints with clean, lint-free gloves to avoid fingerprints and smudges.
Display prints away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
While the paper is water-resistant, avoid prolonged exposure to moisture. If spills occur, gently blot the affected area with a clean, dry cloth immediately.
