FAQs

Can I use these hinges on metal gates?

No, these hinges are specifically designed for timber joinery projects.

Does this pack contain a pair of hinges?

Yes, this product is supplied as a pair.

Are the screws included?

Please check your specific package contents, though it is generally recommended to source high-quality exterior grade screws suitable for your specific timber type.

Can these hinges be used in coastal areas?

While the epoxy coating is corrosion-resistant, coastal environments are highly corrosive. You may need more frequent inspections for signs of oxidation.

What is the recommended weight limit for these hinges?

These are rated for medium-duty applications. For gates wider than 750mm, we recommend upgrading to a larger hinge size from the Timco range.

Troubleshooting

The gate is sagging even after installation.

Check if your gate width exceeds 750mm. If the gate is over 2130mm tall, install a third hinge in the center to provide extra support.

The hinge feels stiff or binds when opening.

Ensure the hinge pins are perfectly aligned during installation and check that the door is not pinching against the gate frame.

Mounting screws are pulling out of the wood.

Use longer or thicker screws appropriate for the gate's weight, and ensure you have pre-drilled properly sized pilot holes.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Resistant to corrosion and scuffs due to high-quality epoxy finish
  • Prevents door warping and sagging through wide weight distribution
  • Easy to install on most standard timber structures
  • Aesthetically pleasing black finish complements traditional gate designs

Cons

  • Not suitable for gates wider than 750mm without additional hardware
  • Requires a third hinge for doors exceeding 2130mm in height
  • Limited to timber applications

Setup, Compatibility & Care

For installation, ensure you are mounting to a solid timber surface. Pre-drilling pilot holes is highly recommended to prevent the wood from splitting when driving in mounting screws.

Compatibility Requirements:

  • Gate Width: 500mm to 750mm.
  • Door Height: Up to 2130mm (use a third hinge if higher).
  • Material: Suitable for timber joinery only.

Care Instructions:

  • Periodically inspect the mounting screws to ensure they have not loosened due to timber expansion or contraction.
  • If the hinge begins to squeak, a light application of silicone-based lubricant to the knuckle will restore smooth movement.
