The Marshalltown 176D cement edger is designed for professional masons and DIY enthusiasts who require a precision finish on concrete edges, steps, and verges. Its primary benefit is the combination of a high-quality polished steel blade and an ergonomic DuraSoft handle, which together provide a smooth finish while minimizing physical strain. A potential caveat for users is that its compact 150mm x 75mm size is optimized for detail work, so it may not be the most efficient choice for leveling or edging exceptionally large, expansive concrete pours in a single pass.

This tool features a 10mm (3/8in) radius.
It should be used when the concrete is in the plastic state, after the bleed water has disappeared from the surface.
The DuraSoft handle is integrated; it is not designed to be removed or replaced by the user.
The blade is made of high-quality polished steel for durability and a smooth finish.
The ergonomic DuraSoft handle is designed to be ambidextrous, allowing for comfortable use by both left- and right-handed masons.
If concrete has hardened, use a plastic scraper or a stiff-bristled brush with water. Avoid using metal scrapers that could scratch the polished steel finish.
Ensure the blade is clean and lightly damp before use. Applying a small amount of concrete release agent can also help.
The concrete may still be too wet (too much bleed water). Wait a few minutes for the water to dissipate before edging again.
Check the mounting screws connecting the handle to the steel mountings and tighten them if necessary.
There is no complex setup required for the Marshalltown 176D; it is ready for use immediately out of the box. To maintain the tool's performance, rinse the steel blade thoroughly with water immediately after each use to remove any wet cement residue. If concrete is allowed to dry on the blade, it can create an uneven surface that will mar future finishes. Periodically inspect the steel mountings to ensure they remain tight. Store the tool in a dry environment to prevent surface corrosion on the steel components. While the tool is compatible with all standard Portland cement concrete mixes, always ensure the concrete has reached the proper consistency—neither too wet nor too dry—before attempting to edge.
