Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Assembly is straightforward, guided by the included manual. Ensure you have a clear, level space for the planter before beginning construction.
Compatibility:
This planter is designed for outdoor use and is compatible with various soil types and plants. Its Corten steel construction makes it suitable for most climates.
Care:
- Initial Rusting: The planter will naturally develop a rust patina over time. To accelerate this process, you can spray it with a saltwater solution. Mix approximately 1 tablespoon of salt with 1 quart of water and apply with a spray bottle. Repeat daily for a week or two until the desired rust color is achieved. Alternatively, a mix of vinegar and salt can also be used.
- Preventing Stains: Corten steel can leach rust, especially during the initial weathering phase. To prevent rust stains on patios, decks, or walls, it is recommended to place the planter on a separate base or ensure adequate drainage away from sensitive surfaces. Regularly clean any rust runoff from surrounding areas.
- Cleaning: Generally, the planter requires minimal cleaning. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the protective layer.
- Winter Care: Corten steel is frost-resistant. Ensure proper drainage to prevent water from freezing and expanding within the planter, which could cause damage.
