Setup, Compatibility & Care
Installation of an electric strut is more technical than a standard mechanical gas strut. Because this component interacts with the vehicle's electronic control unit (ECU), it is recommended to disconnect the vehicle battery before removal. Always support the tailgate with a prop or a second person during the replacement process to prevent damage to the hinges or the remaining strut. For long-term care, keep the strut shaft free of debris or grit. Avoid using heavy lubricants on the shaft, as they can attract dust and damage the internal seals, which are critical for maintaining the pressure necessary for the electric motor to operate effectively.
