Blades are bent or damaged.

Carefully straighten the blade if possible, or replace the damaged blade. Avoid forcing the gauge; use the correct blade for the specified gap.

Markings on the blades are wearing off.

Handle with care to prevent excessive wear and tear. Store the gauge in its protective case when not in use.

Difficulty inserting the blade into the gap.
