This double RJ45 CAT6 wall socket is designed for network cables run between rooms, beneath floors, and behind walls. It fits a standard single back box with included screws, similar to aerial or power sockets. The wires connect easily to the keystone jacks at the rear using an IDC termination tool, which pierces the wire's insulation for simple installation. Colour coding on the back of each keystone jack simplifies wiring. To install, strip a section of the outer cable insulation and follow the colour-coded labels on the socket to push each internal wire into its corresponding connection with an IDC tool. The keystone jacks use TIA/EIA-568-B colour coding, but can be wired to TIA/EIA-568-A if needed. The socket can be wired in 'straight through' or 'cross-over' configurations. 'Cross-over' cables are typically used to connect two computers directly without a hub or router, requiring TIA/EIA-568-A at one end and TIA/EIA-568-B at the other. 'Straight through' cables are suitable for connecting a PC or games console to a hub/router, or for audio and video distribution with AV extender devices throughout a home or commercial project. For a 'straight through' cable, use the same wiring variant at both ends (either TIA/EIA-568-A to TIA/EIA-568-A or TIA/EIA-568-B to TIA/EIA-568-B).
