Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
These chisels require a striking tool, such as a ball-peen hammer or engineer's hammer, to operate. Ensure the chisel head is securely placed on the material you intend to cut or shape, and strike the chisel's striking end (the butt) firmly with the hammer.
Compatibility:
This set is designed for use on a variety of metal materials, including steel, iron, aluminum, and brass. It is not intended for use on hard materials like concrete, stone, or hardened steel, as this may damage the chisel tips.
Care:
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the chisels to remove any metal debris or rust. A dry cloth is usually sufficient.
- Storage: Store the chisels in a dry environment to prevent rust. A tool roll or a dedicated organizer is recommended.
- Sharpening: Periodically inspect the cutting edges. If they become dull or nicked, they can be sharpened on a grinding wheel or with a sharpening stone. Always maintain the original bevel angle for optimal performance.
- Maintenance: Apply a light coat of oil to the metal surfaces if storing for extended periods to further prevent rust.
