Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your hyacinths thrive, plant them during the autumn or winter months in a location that receives full sun to partial shade. Dig a hole roughly 10-15 cm deep, placing the bulb with the 'nose' pointing upward. If your soil is heavy clay, mix in horticultural grit to improve drainage, as the bulbs are susceptible to rot in waterlogged conditions. Once planted, keep the area weed-free and water occasionally during dry autumn spells. After the flowering period ends in spring, allow the foliage to die back naturally to nourish the bulb for next year's growth; do not cut the leaves until they have turned yellow.
