Setup, Compatibility & Care
Installation
For your safety and optimal performance, it is crucial to have the Michelin Pilot Street Tyre (110/80-17 57S) installed by a qualified motorcycle mechanic. Proper installation includes mounting, balancing, and ensuring correct bead seating. Do not attempt to install motorcycle tyres yourself without professional tools and expertise.
Compatibility
This tyre is specifically designed for small engine motorcycles. The sizing `110/80-17` indicates a tyre width of 110mm, an aspect ratio of 80% (meaning the sidewall height is 80% of the width), and a fit for 17-inch wheels. The `57S` rating denotes a load index of 57 (up to 230 kg or 507 lbs) and a speed rating of S (up to 180 km/h or 112 mph). Always verify these specifications against your motorcycle manufacturer's recommendations in your owner's manual.
Care and Maintenance
- Tyre Pressure: Regularly check and maintain the correct tyre pressure as specified by your motorcycle manufacturer, not the pressure printed on the tyre's sidewall. Incorrect pressure can lead to uneven wear, reduced grip, and decreased fuel efficiency.
- Visual Inspection: Before each ride, perform a quick visual check for any signs of damage such as cuts, punctures, bulges, or embedded objects. Also, inspect the tread for excessive or uneven wear.
- Tread Depth: Monitor tread depth regularly. Replace the tyre when the tread wears down to the minimum legal limit (often indicated by tread wear indicators within the grooves).
- Cleaning: Clean your tyres with mild soap and water to remove dirt, grime, and road contaminants. Avoid harsh chemicals or silicone-based products which can degrade the rubber.
- Storage: If storing your motorcycle for an extended period, ensure the tyres are off the ground or the weight is evenly distributed to prevent flat spots. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and ozone-producing equipment.
