FAQs

What is the weight capacity of the shelf?

The weight capacity varies depending on the length of the shelf and how securely it is mounted. Always refer to the specific product documentation or manufacturer's guidelines for the exact weight limit. Ensure mounting is done into wall studs or with heavy-duty anchors for maximum support.

How do I clean the live edge?

Clean the live edge with a soft, dry cloth. For more stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid harsh chemicals or soaking the wood.

Are the shelves treated to prevent insect damage?

The product description focuses on the quality and sourcing of the pine. Specific treatments for insect prevention are not detailed. Proper care and avoiding conditions that attract pests are recommended.

Can I cut or alter the shelf?

While it is solid wood, altering the shelf, especially the live edge, is not recommended as it may compromise the structural integrity and aesthetic. If modifications are necessary, consult with a professional woodworker.

Does the shelf come with mounting hardware?

Typically, floating shelves come with the necessary mounting brackets. However, the specific screws or anchors needed for your wall type may not always be included and might need to be purchased separately.

Why does my shelf look different from the picture?

Each Chill House Live Edge Rustic Floating Shelf is unique due to the natural variations in solid wood and the live edge. The grain patterns, color tones, and exact shape of the live edge will differ, making your shelf one-of-a-kind.

What kind of wood is used?

The shelves are made from high-quality solid pine sourced from sustainable sawmills across Europe.

Troubleshooting

Shelf is not level

Loosen mounting screws slightly, adjust the shelf to level, and retighten screws. Ensure the mounting bracket is installed perfectly level.

Shelf appears unstable or wobbly

Verify that the shelf is properly seated on its mounting bracket and that all bracket screws are securely fastened to wall studs or appropriate anchors.

Wood shows signs of drying or cracking

Ensure the shelf is not placed near heat sources or in very dry environments. Consider using a wood conditioner specifically designed for solid wood furniture.

Mounting bracket is difficult to install

Ensure you are using the correct drill bit size for your screws and wall anchors. If mounting into studs, pre-drilling pilot holes can help.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Unique, natural live edge adds significant aesthetic appeal.
  • Made from solid, sustainably sourced European pine for durability.
  • Floating design offers a clean, modern, and minimalist display.
  • Each shelf is one-of-a-kind due to natural wood variations.
  • Available in multiple lengths to fit diverse spaces.

Cons

  • Solid wood requires specific care to prevent warping or damage from moisture/heat.
  • Live edge uniqueness means no two shelves are identical, which might not suit all design aesthetics.
  • Mounting hardware, while often included, requires careful installation for safety and stability.
  • Price point may be higher due to solid wood and unique design.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Identify the desired wall location and ensure it is free of electrical wires or plumbing.
  2. Use a stud finder to locate wall studs for the most secure mounting. If studs are not available, use appropriate heavy-duty wall anchors suitable for your wall type (drywall, plaster, etc.).
  3. Follow the included mounting bracket instructions precisely. Typically, this involves attaching the bracket to the wall and then sliding the shelf onto the bracket.
  4. Ensure the shelf is level before fully securing it.

Compatibility:

  • Suitable for most standard wall types when appropriate mounting hardware is used.
  • Ideal for displaying items that do not exceed the shelf's weight capacity (refer to product specifications for exact limits).

Care:

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth and wipe dry immediately. Avoid abrasive cleaners or excessive moisture.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent fading, warping, or cracking.
  • Periodically check mounting screws to ensure they remain tight.
