Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Ensure the engine is at operating temperature but turned off.
- Remove the spark plug from the cylinder to be tested.
- Select the appropriate adaptor (14mm, 18mm, or the rigid cone adaptor) and securely screw it onto the end of the flexible hose.
- Insert the adaptor firmly into the spark plug port. Ensure a good seal.
- Connect the gauge assembly to the hose if not already attached.
- Disable the fuel supply and ignition system to prevent accidental starting.
- Have an assistant crank the engine for 4-6 compression strokes or until the gauge reading stabilizes.
- Read the pressure on the gauge.
- To release pressure, use the side release valve before removing the adaptor.
- Repeat for all cylinders, noting the readings.
Compatibility:
This tool is designed for use on most petrol (gasoline) engines. The included 14mm and 18mm adaptors, along with the universal rigid cone adaptor, cover a wide range of common spark plug hole sizes. However, some specialized or vintage engines may have unique spark plug thread sizes that are not compatible with the provided adaptors. Always verify your engine's spark plug thread size before use if unsure.
Care:
- After each use, clean the adaptors and hose with a dry cloth.
- Ensure the gauge face is clean and free from debris.
- Store all components in the provided durable case to prevent damage and loss.
- Avoid exposing the tool to excessive moisture or corrosive substances.
