Product Information

Full details

The Original BTC Sopra Downlight - Plain is designed for homeowners seeking a decorative alternative to standard recessed lighting, particularly in smaller spaces or areas with low ceilings. Its key benefit is transforming a functional downlight into a unique decorative feature, reminiscent of a sea urchin's shell. A crucial consideration is that this fitting is not fire rated and requires an additional firehood to maintain ceiling fire integrity.

FAQs

Is a bulb included with the Sopra Downlight?

Typically, light fittings are sold separately from bulbs. Please check the product packaging or retailer listing for specific inclusions.

What size hole is needed for installation?

The exact cutout diameter will be specified in the product's technical datasheet or installation manual. Always refer to this for precise measurements.

Can I use this in a bathroom?

While suitable for general indoor use, ensure the fixture's IP rating is appropriate for the specific area within a bathroom (e.g., away from direct water spray). Check the product specifications for IP rating.

Do I need a special transformer for this light?

The Sopra Downlight operates on mains voltage. Check the product specifications for the required bulb type (e.g., GU10, LED). If an LED retrofit bulb is used, it will typically not require a separate transformer unless specified.

How do I clean the bone china finish?

Clean gently with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.

What is the warranty period for this product?

Warranty details vary by retailer and manufacturer. Please refer to the product documentation or the retailer's sales page for specific warranty information.

Can I paint or alter the finish?

It is not recommended to paint or alter the original bone china finish, as this may affect its aesthetic appeal and the translucency of the material.

Troubleshooting

Light does not turn on

Ensure the power supply is on at the breaker. Check that the bulb is correctly installed and functional. Verify electrical connections are secure (consult an electrician if unsure).

Flickering light

Check the bulb connection for tightness. If the bulb is old, try replacing it. Persistent flickering may indicate an issue with the wiring or transformer; consult an electrician.

Finish appears dull or dirty

Gently clean the exterior with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

The Sopra Downlight is designed for recessed installation into ceilings. It requires a suitable cutout and connection to a mains electrical supply. Important: As the fitting is not fire rated, a compatible firehood must be purchased and installed if maintaining the fire rating of your ceiling is necessary. Professional installation by a qualified electrician is recommended.

Compatibility:

Ceiling Type: Compatible with standard plasterboard or suspended ceilings suitable for recessed lighting.
Electrical: Requires a standard mains voltage power supply. Check the specific wattage and bulb type recommendations provided with the fixture.
Firehood: Use with an approved firehood if required for building regulations or fire safety.

Care:

Cleaning: Gently wipe the bone china exterior with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents which could damage the finish.
Bulb Replacement: Ensure the power is switched off at the source before replacing the bulb. Refer to the product manual for the correct bulb type and maximum wattage.
Inspection: Periodically check the fitting for dust or debris, especially around the light source, and clean as needed.
