Setup, Compatibility & Care
Proper setup, understanding compatibility, and regular care are essential for maximizing the performance and longevity of your Tamron 17-70mm F/2.8 lens.
Setup Instructions
- Prepare the Lens: Ensure both the front and rear lens caps are securely attached when not in use or during transport.
- Align Mounting Marks: On your Sony E-mount APS-C camera body, locate the white index dot. Align the corresponding white dot on the lens barrel with this mark.
- Attach the Lens: Gently push the lens onto the camera body, then twist it clockwise until you hear a distinct click. This indicates the lens is securely locked in place.
- Remove Front Cap: Before shooting, remove the front lens cap.
Compatibility
- This lens is exclusively designed for Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras.
- While it can physically mount on full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, it is not optimized for full-frame use. The camera will automatically switch to APS-C crop mode, resulting in a reduced field of view and lower resolution.
Care & Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a clean, soft microfiber cloth to gently wipe dust and smudges from the lens elements. For more stubborn marks, apply a small amount of lens cleaning solution specifically designed for optics onto the cloth, not directly onto the lens, and then wipe. Always use a blower brush first to remove loose particles before wiping.
- Storage: When not in use, always store the lens with both the front and rear caps attached. Keep it in a dry, dust-free environment, such as a lens pouch, camera bag, or a dry cabinet.
- Environmental Protection: The lens features Moisture-Resistant Construction and a Fluorine Coating on the front element, providing enhanced protection against dust and moisture. However, it is not fully waterproof; avoid direct exposure to heavy rain or prolonged harsh conditions. If it does get wet, dry it thoroughly as soon as possible.
- Zoom Lock Switch: Utilize the Zoom Lock switch (located on the side of the lens barrel) when carrying the lens or storing it to prevent the lens from extending unintentionally (known as 'zoom creep'). Remember to disengage the lock before zooming.
