Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing: Sow seeds indoors in pots or modules from April to May, or sow directly outdoors from late May to June when the risk of frost has passed. Use a good quality seed compost and keep moist.
Transplanting: Harden off young plants before transplanting them into their final growing positions in pots, raised beds, or borders. Ensure they have good drainage and access to sunlight.
Support: Provide support such as canes, netting, or a small trellis, as the plants will climb.
Watering: Water regularly and consistently, especially during dry periods, to prevent stress and ensure good fruit development. Aim to water at the base of the plant.
Feeding: Feed with a high-potash liquid fertilizer once fruits begin to set and continue every 2-3 weeks.
Pest & Disease: Monitor for common pests like aphids and red spider mites. Ensure good air circulation to help prevent fungal diseases.
