Setup, Compatibility & Care
Starting Seeds Indoors:
Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost. Use a seed-starting mix and keep the soil moist and warm (around 70-80°F / 21-27°C). A heat mat can be beneficial.
Transplanting Outdoors:
Once all danger of frost has passed and seedlings have at least two sets of true leaves, transplant them into the garden. Choose a location with full sun (at least 6-8 hours daily) and well-draining soil. Space plants 18-24 inches apart.
Watering:
Water consistently, especially during dry periods, aiming to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Drip irrigation or soaker hoses are recommended to keep foliage dry and reduce disease risk.
Feeding:
Amend the soil with compost before planting. Side-dress with a balanced fertilizer or one slightly higher in phosphorus and potassium when plants begin to flower.
Support:
As plants grow and bear fruit, they may require staking or caging to support the weight of the peppers and prevent stems from breaking.
