FAQs

What is the maximum battery capacity this unit can charge?

This unit is designed to charge and start batteries within the range of 30Ah to 500Ah.

Can this unit be used for 6V batteries?

No, this unit is exclusively designed for 12V and 24V vehicle electrical systems.

What is the peak starting current output?

The unit provides a peak starting current of 200A (180A EN).

How do I know if the unit is charging the battery?

The built-in ammeter will display the current flow, indicating that charging is in progress.

What happens if I connect the clamps incorrectly?

The unit features built-in polarity protection which will prevent damage in case of incorrect connection. A fuse may blow, which can be replaced.

Is this unit suitable for professional garage use?

Yes, it is designed for heavier garage use and is suitable for engines up to 3.0L capacity.

What type of fuse does this unit use?

The unit uses a 110A fuse for circuit protection. Replacement fuses are available as START180.F20 (pack of 20) or START180.F (single).

Troubleshooting

Unit does not power on.

Check that the power cord is securely plugged into a working 230V outlet. Ensure the illuminated power switch is in the 'on' position.

Battery is not charging.

Verify correct clamp connection (positive to positive, negative to ground). Check the ammeter for activity. Ensure the selected charging rate is appropriate.

Vehicle will not start after attempting a jump-start.

Ensure clamps are firmly attached to clean battery terminals/ground. Check the polarity protection and fuse; replace the fuse if it has blown. Attempt the jump-start again, ensuring sufficient charge time if needed.

Ammeter shows no reading during charging or starting.

Inspect clamp connections for looseness or corrosion. If the fuse has blown, replace it. Contact customer support if the issue persists.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Offers both charging and jump-starting functions in one unit.
  • Suitable for a broad range of battery capacities (30-500Ah).
  • Dual voltage output provides flexibility for different vehicle systems.
  • Robust starting current (200A peak) for reliable engine starts.
  • Built-in safety features like polarity protection and fuse protection.

Cons

  • Primarily designed for heavier garage use, potentially overkill for occasional home users.
  • Requires a 230V-16A power supply.
  • Maximum charge rate of 30A (EN) may be slower for very large batteries compared to dedicated high-capacity chargers.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Ensure the unit is placed on a stable, dry surface with adequate ventilation.
  2. Connect the unit to a suitable 230V power outlet (requiring 16A).
  3. Identify the correct battery terminals on the vehicle.
  4. Connect the positive (+) clamp to the positive battery terminal and the negative (-) clamp to the vehicle's chassis or engine block, away from the battery.

Compatibility:

  • Voltage: Compatible with both 12V and 24V vehicle electrical systems.
  • Battery Range: Suitable for lead-acid batteries between 30Ah and 500Ah.
  • Engine Capacity: Recommended for engines up to 3.0L displacement.

Care:

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the clamps and cables with a dry cloth. Clean the unit's exterior with a damp cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the unit in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and moisture. Ensure cables are neatly coiled.
  • Fuse Replacement: If the internal fuse blows, replace it only with the specified type (START180.F20 or START180.F). The unit is protected by a 110A fuse.
