Humbrol Matt Clear Varnish is designed for scale modelers and hobbyists seeking a high-quality, professional-grade matte finish on their projects. Its primary benefit lies in its versatile, water-soluble formula that applies clear and dries to a durable, non-reflective sheen, effectively sealing paint and preparing surfaces for decals. While it is highly adaptable for both brush and airbrush application, users should note that the drying time can be influenced by ambient humidity, requiring a patient approach when applying multiple layers for a deeper finish.

Yes, Humbrol Matt Clear Varnish is compatible with both Humbrol Enamel and Acrylic paint ranges.
While it can be used straight from the bottle, thinning slightly with an appropriate acrylic thinner often improves flow and provides a finer finish.
You should wait at least 30 minutes for the surface to dry before applying a subsequent coat.
No, the formula is designed to go on clear and stay clear throughout the life of the model.
Yes, it is effective for improving the appearance of clear parts, though a very thin coat is recommended to maintain clarity.
Since it is water-soluble, warm water and a little mild soap are sufficient for cleaning your brushes.
This is often caused by applying the coat too thickly or in high humidity; apply thinner coats and ensure the room is well-ventilated.
Ensure the varnish is properly thinned according to the airbrush nozzle size and clean the needle frequently.
High humidity or low temperatures can slow down the curing process; use a dehumidifier or wait longer before applying additional coats.
Before application, ensure the base paint layer has cured for at least 24 hours. If airbrushing, adjust your pressure to between 15-20 PSI for best results. Shake the container thoroughly before use to ensure the matting agents are evenly distributed. Between sessions, clean your brushes or airbrush immediately with water or an appropriate cleaner to prevent clogging. Store the bottle in a cool, dry place and ensure the lid is sealed tightly to prevent evaporation or skinning of the varnish.
