FAQs

What is the primary benefit of the Shire Tilney Log Cabin?

The primary benefit is its robust 19mm tongue-and-groove construction, offering a durable, weather-resistant, and versatile garden structure.

Does the cabin come pre-treated?

No, the Shire Tilney is supplied untreated. You must apply a quality preservative to all external surfaces immediately after installation to protect the timber and maintain the warranty.

What kind of base do I need?

A solid, level base is required for installation. This could be a concrete slab, paving slabs, or a timber deck base.

Can I use this as a permanent office?

Yes, its sturdy construction makes it suitable for use as a home office or studio, provided it is properly treated and maintained for year-round use.

What are the dimensions of the door and window?

The cabin features a full-length glazed double door and a full-length top-hinged opening window. Specific dimensions should be checked in the product images or detailed specifications provided by the manufacturer.

How often should I re-treat the wood?

It is recommended to reapply preservative treatment annually or as per the instructions of the specific wood preservative product used.

Is professional installation an option?

Yes, Shire Garden Buildings often offers optional professional installation services in many areas. Please check availability and pricing separately.

Troubleshooting

Wood appears damp or has condensation

Ensure adequate ventilation by opening the window. Check that the preservative treatment has been applied correctly and is still effective. Proper site drainage is also important.

Door or window is stiff to open/close

Check for any obstructions or swelling due to moisture. Ensure the frame is not warped. Adjust hinges if necessary. Allow wood to acclimatize.

Gaps appear between logs

This can sometimes occur with natural timber movement. Ensure preservative is applied to fill small gaps and maintain weatherproofing. For significant gaps, consult manufacturer guidelines.

Leaking roof or floor

Verify that the roof felt (if applicable) is correctly installed and sealed. Ensure floorboards are properly fitted. Check the preservative treatment has sealed all joints.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: Ensure you have a solid, level base prepared before assembly. The cabin comes with clear assembly instructions. While self-assembly is possible, professional installation services are available in many areas.

Compatibility: This log cabin is designed as a standalone garden building. It requires adequate space around it for access during assembly and for maintenance. Ensure local planning regulations are checked before installation.
