Setup, Compatibility & Care
To begin, select a pot that is only slightly larger than the bulb itself, as Amaryllis prefer to be somewhat snug. Plant the bulb so that the top third is exposed above the soil line. Use a standard, well-draining potting mix to ensure the roots do not sit in stagnant water. Once leaves appear, move the plant to a warm, brightly lit area and maintain consistent moisture. After the flowers fade, cut the stalk back to the neck of the bulb, but allow the foliage to continue growing throughout the spring and summer. During this time, feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer to build energy for next year’s show.
