Product Information

Full details

This guide is for DIY landscapers and construction professionals needing a robust solution for securing gabion walls. The key benefit is simplified and secure gabion assembly using durable galvanized steel spirals. A significant caveat is the need for proper safety precautions and potentially professional consultation due to the heavy nature of filled gabions. These spirals are designed to efficiently connect gabion mesh panels, offering strength and longevity.

FAQs

What material are the gabion spirals made from?

The gabion spirals are made from heavy-duty galvanised steel, which provides strength and resistance to corrosion.

How many gabion spirals are included in a delivery?

A delivery includes 24 pieces of gabion spirals.

What is the length and diameter of each spiral?

Each spiral is 100 cm in length and has a diameter of 3.5 mm.

What is the recommended spacing for the spirals?

The spiral pitch is 50 mm, which guides the spacing for consistent panel attachment.

Are these spirals suitable for all types of gabion mesh?

These spirals are designed for standard gabion weld mesh panels. Compatibility may vary with highly specialized mesh types.

What safety precautions should I take when installing?

Always wear protective gloves, safety shoes, a helmet, and safety glasses due to sharp edges. Be aware of the weight of filled gabions.

Can I install gabions in windy conditions?

It is not recommended to install the product during extreme weather conditions such as strong winds.

Troubleshooting

Spirals are difficult to twist through mesh openings.

Ensure mesh openings are aligned properly. If resistance is significant, check for any pre-existing damage or bends in the spiral. A gentle tap with a rubber mallet might help, but avoid excessive force that could deform the spiral or mesh.

Gabion panels do not feel securely connected.

Ensure the spiral is fully engaged and twisted sufficiently to create tension between the panels. Use additional spirals if necessary, maintaining the recommended spacing. Check that the mesh is not damaged around the connection point.

Spirals show signs of rust or corrosion.

While galvanized steel is corrosion-resistant, prolonged exposure in harsh environments can lead to surface rust. Minor surface rust can often be cleaned, but significant corrosion may indicate the spiral's integrity is compromised and replacement might be necessary.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Enhances gabion structural integrity.
Facilitates quick and easy gabion assembly.
Made from corrosion-resistant galvanized steel for durability.
Provides a secure and stable connection between mesh panels.
Cost-effective solution for gabion construction.

Cons

Requires safety precautions due to sharp edges.
Filled gabions are very heavy, posing a tipping hazard if not installed correctly.
Assembly requires knowledge of handling tools and heavy components.
Not suitable for direct installation during extreme weather conditions.
Potential need for professional consultation for complex installations.

Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions

Setup:

Safety First: Always wear protective gloves, safety shoes, a helmet (head protection), and safety glasses before starting assembly. Metal wires can be pointed and sharp-edged.
Prepare Panels: Lay out your gabion mesh panels in the desired configuration.
Insert Spirals: Insert the 100 cm spirals through the mesh openings of adjacent panels. Twist the spiral to secure the panels together. The 50 mm spiral pitch ensures consistent connection points.
Ensure Stability: Ensure gabion units are placed on a sufficiently stable surface and follow installation instructions carefully. Remember, filled gabions are heavy.

Compatibility:

These gabion spirals are designed to connect standard gabion weld mesh panels. Their 3.5 mm diameter and 100 cm length make them versatile for most common gabion constructions.

Care:

Gabion spirals, being made of galvanized steel, require minimal care. The galvanization provides excellent corrosion resistance. However, it is advisable to inspect the connections periodically, especially after severe weather events, to ensure continued integrity. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or tools that could damage the galvanized coating.
