Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: Upon receiving your Dracaena Marginata, carefully remove it from its nursery pot. Inspect the roots and the soil. If the soil appears compacted or overly wet, you may wish to repot it into a slightly larger container (1-2 inches wider) using a well-draining potting mix formulated for houseplants. Ensure the new pot has drainage holes.
Compatibility: This plant is compatible with most indoor environments. It thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates lower light conditions. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, which can scorch its leaves. Keep away from heat sources like radiators or vents. It is important to note that Dracaena Marginata is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested, so place it out of reach of pets.
Care:
- Watering: Water thoroughly when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Allow excess water to drain completely. Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water.
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but tolerates partial shade. Lower light conditions may result in slower growth and less vibrant leaf colour.
- Temperature: Ideal temperatures are between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Protect from frost.
- Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity. Misting occasionally or placing the pot on a pebble tray with water can be beneficial.
- Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Do not fertilize in fall or winter.
