Full details

The Rackhams Double Garden Pergola is designed for homeowners and garden enthusiasts looking to create a substantial, structured living space in their backyard or patio area. Featuring a distinctive double-rail configuration and crafted from pressure-treated Northern European Redwood, this pergola offers a durable and aesthetically impressive frame for climbing plants or outdoor dining areas. While its heavy-duty construction and 171 kg weight provide excellent stability, potential buyers should note that assembly requires multiple people due to the size and weight of the timber components.

FAQs

How many people are needed for assembly?

Due to the size and weight of the 171 kg structure, we recommend at least three people for safe assembly.

Can I customize the height of the pergola?

Yes, you can cut the posts to your preferred length during the assembly process to suit your specific garden height requirements.

What type of foundation do I need?

The pergola can be anchored using bolt-down feet for hard surfaces like concrete or spiked feet for soft ground.

Is the wood already treated?

Yes, the Northern European Redwood is pressure-treated to protect it against rot and insect damage.

What are the dimensions of the corner posts?

The corner posts are solid timber measuring 95mm x 95mm.

Are there optional upgrades available?

Yes, options such as a 5-degree slope, cladding, or pedestal panels can be requested; please contact support for details.

Troubleshooting

Post does not fit onto the spike/bolt-down foot

Ensure the hole drilled into the base of the post is perfectly centered and deep enough to accommodate the bracket lug.

Wood appears to be warping slightly

It is normal for natural timber to move slightly with moisture changes. Ensure all fixings are kept tight and that the structure is on level ground.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Durable pressure-treated timber construction
  • Strong, substantial 95mm x 95mm posts
  • Attractive double-rail design
  • Includes specialized drill bit for footings
  • Corrosion-resistant heavy-duty fixings

Cons

  • Significant weight requires multiple people for assembly
  • Not suitable for small garden spaces
  • Requires careful preparation of post bases

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Installation requires basic tools and at least two, preferably three, people to handle the heavy timber sections. The posts must be cut to your desired length before use. Once cut, use the supplied flat drill bit to create a central hole at the bottom of the post for a secure fit onto your chosen footings (spike or bolt-down). Since the timber is pressure-treated, it is naturally resistant to decay, but we recommend an annual inspection of the bolts to ensure they remain tight as the wood naturally expands and contracts with seasonal changes. Regularly clearing debris from the runners will maintain the structure's aesthetic appeal.
