FAQs

What age is the MAM Start Soother suitable for?

The MAM Start Soother is specifically designed for newborns, suitable for babies aged 0-2 months.

How do I sterilize the MAM Start Soother?

You can sterilize it quickly in the provided steriliser box. Just add 25ml of water, place the soothers inside, close the box, and microwave for 3 minutes (adjust time for microwave wattage). You can also boil it for 5 minutes or use a steam sterilizer.

What is the MAM SkinSoft® teat made of?

The SkinSoft® teat is made of silicone, designed to feel familiar and soft like skin. The shield, button, and steriliser box are made from bio-circular polypropylene.

How often should I replace the soother?

For hygiene and safety reasons, it is recommended to replace soothers every 1-2 months, or immediately at the first sign of damage or weakness.

Is this soother good for my baby's jaw and teeth development?

Yes, the symmetrical design of the MAM Start Soother is specifically developed to support healthy jaw and teeth development from an early age.

What are 'bio-circular materials'?

Bio-circular materials refer to polypropylene linked to bio-circular feedstocks, certified by ISCC PLUS according to a mass balance approach. This means components like the shield, button, and steriliser box are made with more sustainable resources.

Can I use this soother for a baby older than 2 months?

While it might still fit, this soother is optimized for 0-2 months. As your baby grows, it's recommended to transition to a larger MAM soother size designed for their specific age range to ensure continued comfort and proper oral development.

Troubleshooting

Baby refuses the soother.

Ensure the soother is clean and offered at an appropriate time, such as during light fussiness or after a feed but not replacing one. Try gently inserting it and allowing the baby to latch. Ensure the soother is the correct size for their age. If refusal persists, consult with a healthcare professional.

Soother appears discolored or damaged.

Immediately discontinue use and discard the soother. Discoloration can be normal with natural materials over time but damage (tears, cracks, stickiness) indicates a safety risk. Replace with a new soother.

Sterilisation in the box doesn't seem effective or leaves water inside.

Ensure you add exactly 25ml of water to the steriliser box as instructed. Check your microwave's wattage and adjust the sterilization time accordingly (consult the steriliser box instructions). After sterilization, open the lid and allow the soothers to cool and air dry completely before use to prevent water retention.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Tailored for Newborns: Optimal size and weight for the youngest babies (0-2 months).
High Acceptance Rate: The SkinSoft® teat is widely accepted by babies, making pacifier introduction easier.
Skin-Friendly: Excellent airflow through the shield design minimizes skin irritation.
Easy to Sterilize: Integrated steriliser box simplifies hygiene, saving time and equipment.
Promotes Healthy Oral Development: Symmetrical teat design supports proper jaw and teeth growth.
Sustainable Choice: Incorporates bio-circular materials for reduced environmental impact.

Cons

Limited Age Range: Only suitable for 0-2 months, requiring a size upgrade as the baby grows.
Material Nuance: The "Silk" attribute might be interpreted as a fabric, but refers to the feel of the SkinSoft® silicone teat, which could cause slight confusion for some.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Initial Setup

Before first use, always sterilize the soother. Remove the soother from its packaging and place it in the steriliser box with 25ml of water. Close the box and microwave for 3 minutes (timing may vary based on microwave wattage; refer to box instructions for exact power levels). Allow to cool completely before giving to your baby.

Compatibility

This MAM Start Soother is specifically designed for babies aged 0-2 months. While it may fit older infants, its size and weight are optimized for newborns to ensure maximum comfort and effectiveness. Always choose the correct soother size for your baby's age and developmental stage.

Care & Maintenance

Daily Cleaning: Clean the soother before each use, especially after it has fallen on the floor or been in contact with unhygienic surfaces. Wash with mild soap and water, then rinse thoroughly.
Sterilization: Sterilize regularly using the provided steriliser box or other approved sterilization methods (boiling for 5 minutes, steam sterilizer). Do not over-sterilize.
Inspection: Always inspect the soother carefully before each use, especially when the baby has teeth. Pull the teat in all directions. Discard at the first sign of damage or weakness, such as stickiness, tears, or swelling.
Replacement: For hygiene and safety reasons, replace soothers every 1-2 months, or sooner if showing signs of wear and tear.
