Product Information

Full details

The AB Tools Fireside Ash Carrier is an essential tool for homeowners who frequently use wood-burning fireplaces, stoves, or chimineas, providing a safe and clean method for the collection and transport of hot embers. Its robust, galvanised steel construction ensures long-term durability and heat resistance, allowing you to move debris without spilling ash or dust throughout your living space. While it effectively contains materials for cooling, users should note that the exterior can become hot to the touch during use, necessitating the use of hearth gloves when handling.

FAQs

Can I leave this container outside in the rain?

While the galvanised steel is rust-resistant, it is best to store the carrier in a dry area or a shed to prolong its lifespan and keep the interior dry for your next cleaning.

How much ash does it hold?

With dimensions of 33cm x 44.5cm x 12cm, the carrier is designed for standard fireplace cleanouts and comfortably holds the volume of ash generated from one to two days of moderate fire use.

Is it safe to put glowing embers inside?

Yes, it is designed for hot embers; however, always exercise caution and ensure the lid is fully closed to prevent oxygen feeding the fire.

What is the weight of the carrier?

The total unit weight is 2200 grams, making it lightweight enough to carry comfortably even when filled with ash.

Does the carrier have a bottom tray or just the box?

It is a singular, enclosed box container with a lid; it does not have a separate bottom tray.

Troubleshooting

The lid is difficult to open or close.

Clean away any ash buildup or soot around the rim and the hinge area; soot accumulation often creates friction.

The carrier is getting too hot to hold.

Ensure you are using heat-resistant hearth gloves when transporting hot embers, and allow more cooling time before moving the container.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Secure lid prevents messy ash spills in the home
  • Compact dimensions make it easy to store beside the fireplace
  • Sturdy handle provides a secure grip during transport

Cons

  • Metal surface becomes hot during use, requiring careful handling
  • Lid can become tight if ash residue builds up around the rim
  • Requires manual cleaning to maintain the finish

Setup, Compatibility & Care

This carrier requires no assembly; it is ready to use immediately upon arrival. It is compatible with all standard domestic open fires, wood stoves, and outdoor fire pits.

Maintenance Tips:

  • Regularly wipe the exterior with a dry cloth to remove dust buildup.
  • Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners, as these may damage the galvanised coating.
  • Periodically check the handle and lid hinges for any signs of loose rivets to ensure safety.
  • Always store in a dry location if kept outdoors during the off-season to prevent long-term weathering.
