Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost or sow directly outdoors in late summer to early autumn for overwintering. Use a good quality seed compost and sow thinly in trays or pots. Keep compost moist and maintain a temperature of 15-20°C for germination. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, prick them out into individual pots or modules and grow them on in cooler conditions. Harden off plants gradually before planting them into their final positions in well-drained soil, ideally in a sunny or partially shaded location. They are compatible with most spring-flowering bulbs and general garden soil. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, and deadhead spent flowers to encourage further blooming. Protect young plants from slugs and snails. During very cold winters, provide some protection with fleece or by moving pots to a sheltered location.
