The Aqua One Filter Air 60 is an essential tool for aquarium hobbyists specializing in breeding tanks, shrimp colonies, and fry rearing. It delivers gentle, reliable biological filtration through its oversized sponge design, ensuring delicate aquatic life remains safe from strong currents. While it is highly effective for these specific environments, users should note that it requires an external air pump to function and is not suitable for large tanks requiring high-flow mechanical filtration.

No, the Aqua One Filter Air 60 is an air-driven filter and requires an external air pump and airline tubing to operate.
This filter is designed for small tanks and delicate species. Goldfish produce high waste levels and would likely require a much more powerful filtration system.
Clean the sponge whenever you notice a visible reduction in bubble flow or debris buildup, typically once every 2-4 weeks during a water change.
Yes, the sponge filter is widely considered the safest type of filter for fry, as there are no moving parts or strong intakes that could harm them.
You can add small amounts of activated carbon, ammonia remover, or other specialized chemical filtration media inside the hollow center.
It creates a very gentle flow, which is ideal for species that prefer calm waters, but it does not create a strong current.
Check that the air pump is plugged in and the airline tubing is not kinked or pinched.
Ensure all air is squeezed out of the foam sponge by submerging and squeezing it while it is underwater.
The sponge pores may be clogged with debris. Remove the sponge and rinse it thoroughly in aquarium water.
To set up your filter, connect a standard airline tube from your external air pump to the intake nozzle of the filter. Place the sponge in your tank and allow it to saturate before turning on the air supply. Compatibility is broad for small aquariums, but ensure your air pump is rated for the size of your tank. For maintenance, gently rinse the sponge in a bucket of tank water during your regular water change. Never use chlorinated tap water, as this will destroy the beneficial bacteria colonies established in the foam.
