Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Leader: Attach a strong, pike-proof leader (steel wire or heavy fluorocarbon, at least 20-30 cm long) to your main line using a reliable knot or a swivel.
- Knot: Tie the McTracer lure to the leader using a strong fishing knot like a Palomar knot or a Uni knot.
- Reel: Use a medium to heavy power casting or spinning reel with a suitable line (braid or monofilament, 14-30 lb test recommended depending on target species and conditions).
- Rod: A medium-heavy to heavy action rod with a length of 6'6" to 7'6" is ideal for casting and working this lure effectively.
Compatibility:
The McTracer is designed for targeting medium to large predatory freshwater fish, primarily pike. It is compatible with both casting and spinning setups.
Care:
- Rinsing: After each use, rinse the lure thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt, sand, and debris, especially if used in saltwater conditions.
- Drying: Allow the lure to air dry completely before storing to prevent corrosion and hook rust.
- Storage: Store the McTracer in a cool, dry place, preferably in a tackle box with individual compartments to prevent hooks from tangling with other lures or snagging.
- Hook Maintenance: Check the sharpness of the Berkley Fusion19™ treble hooks regularly. Clean and dry them, and consider lightly oiling them if storing for extended periods.
