The Sealey SDL15.01 is a specialized replacement soldering iron tip engineered specifically for users of the SDL15 Plastic Welding Repair Kit who require consistent, professional-grade results for plastic restoration tasks. This component is ideal for tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts looking to maintain the high performance of their existing welding system; however, it is important to note that this tip is strictly proprietary and is not compatible with standard soldering irons or other welding models.

No, the SDL15.01 is specifically engineered for the Sealey SDL15 Plastic Welding Repair Kit and will not fit standard soldering irons.
Replace the tip if you notice significant pitting, deformation of the metal, or if the heating performance becomes erratic despite the iron being clean.
This tip is designed for plastic welding. Using it for electronics is not recommended as the geometry and thermal characteristics are optimized for plastic repair, not delicate circuit work.
Generally, no tools are required beyond your fingers to unscrew the retention collar, though a pair of pliers may be used carefully if the collar is stuck.
Always clean the tip after each use while it is still warm to prevent plastic buildup from hardening, and avoid applying excessive pressure during the welding process.
Ensure the tip is pushed fully into the heating element chamber and the retention collar is securely tightened to allow for proper electrical contact.
Clean the tip while it is hot using a brass wire sponge, and ensure the temperature setting is appropriate for the type of plastic being welded.
To install the tip, ensure the SDL15 unit is completely powered off and has cooled to room temperature. Unscrew the retention collar on your handle, remove the old tip, and slide the SDL15.01 into position, ensuring it is seated firmly before tightening the collar.
For care, avoid using abrasive wire brushes directly on the tip surface, as this can degrade the specialized coating. Instead, wipe the tip gently with a brass wire mesh or a specialized tip cleaner while warm to remove plastic residue and oxidation. Store the unit in a dry environment to prevent corrosion.
