FAQs

How do I feed Hay Cobs?

You can feed them dry (ensure thorough chewing) or soaked to make a mash. Soaking is recommended for horses with dental issues or prone to choke.

How much should I feed?

Feeding amounts depend on your horse's size, activity level, and overall diet. Start with a small amount and adjust as needed.

Can I mix Hay Cobs with other feeds?

When feeding dry, it's best to feed Hay Cobs separately. You can mix the mash with other supplements.

How long should I soak the Hay Cobs?

Soak for at least 3 hours, or preferably overnight, to ensure there are no hard centres.

Are Thunderbrook Hay Cobs suitable for horses with laminitis?

Yes, they are suitable due to their low sugar and starch content.

What are the ingredients?

The product is made from dried alpine grasses and herbage.

Do I need to add anything else to the Hay Cobs?

No, the Hay Cobs are a complete feed. However, you can mix the mash with supplements if necessary.

Where should I store the Hay Cobs?

Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Troubleshooting

Horse is not eating the Hay Cobs.

Try soaking the cobs to create a mash. Some horses prefer the softer texture. Ensure the cobs are fresh and stored properly.

Horse is coughing or showing signs of respiratory distress.

If feeding dry, ensure the cobs are well-chewed. Consider soaking the cobs to eliminate any potential dust.

Horse is not gaining weight.

Adjust the feeding amount based on your horse's activity level and body condition. Consider adding other feeds to supplement its diet, if needed.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Dry Feeding: Feed Hay Cobs separately, not mixed with other feeds. Ensure your horse can chew them thoroughly. If your horse is prone to choke, do not feed dry.
Mash Preparation: Soak Hay Cobs in warm water for at least 3 hours, or preferably overnight, to create a mash. This is ideal for older horses or those with dental problems.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Compatibility: Suitable for a wide range of horses, including those with sensitive stomachs or prone to laminitis.
Care: Monitor your horse's condition, especially when introducing a new feed. Adjust the quantity based on your horse's individual needs and activity level. Always provide fresh, clean water.
