Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Choose the Right Location: Select a location with well-drained soil and either full sun or partial shade.
- Dig the Hole: The hole should be twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep.
- Planting: Gently place the tree into the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the ground. Backfill with soil.
- Watering: Water thoroughly after planting to help settle the soil and establish the roots.
- Mulching: Add a layer of mulch around the base of the tree, keeping it away from the trunk, to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Compatibility:
The Gleditsia Sunburst Tree is compatible with various garden designs and planting schemes. It can be paired with other plants that thrive in similar conditions. Consider companion plants that complement its golden foliage and offer contrasting textures and colors.
Care:
- Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods, until the tree is established. Once established, it is drought-tolerant but still benefits from occasional watering.
- Fertilizing: Fertilize in spring with a balanced fertilizer to promote healthy growth.
- Pruning: Prune any dead or damaged branches in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Prune to shape the canopy, removing crossing or crowded branches.
- Pest and Disease Control: Monitor for pests and diseases. Treat as needed using appropriate methods. Common issues include spider mites and canker.
