Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup Instructions
- Acclimatization: If moving timber from a vastly different environment, allow it to acclimatize to your project's environmental conditions for 24-48 hours to minimize warping or movement after installation.
- Cutting: Use appropriate hand or power saws with sharp blades for clean cuts. Mark your cutting lines clearly before cutting.
- Fastening: Secure the timber using suitable screws, nails, or timber connectors. For best results and to prevent splitting, especially near ends or edges, consider pre-drilling pilot holes before inserting screws.
- Joining: For robust joints, consider using traditional woodworking joints, brackets, or angle plates depending on the project's requirements.
Compatibility
This timber is compatible with a wide range of standard woodworking tools, including saws, drills, planers, and routers. It readily accepts wood glues, screws, nails, and various timber connectors. Its smooth surface provides an excellent base for most wood finishes such as paints, stains, varnishes, and additional wood preservatives.
Care and Maintenance
- Storage: Store any unused timber flat, off the ground, and in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from direct sunlight and rain to prevent warping, twisting, or moisture absorption.
- Outdoor Maintenance: For outdoor projects, periodic inspection is recommended. While treated, re-application of a suitable wood preserver or outdoor wood paint/stain every few years will extend its lifespan and maintain its appearance, especially in areas with high moisture exposure or ground contact.
- Cleaning: Clean any dirt or debris with a soft brush or damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals that may degrade the timber treatment or finish.
