FAQs

Can I use this paint on materials other than plastic?

Yes, Tamiya XF-7 Flat Red can be used on resin and metal model parts. Ensure the surface is properly primed.

How do I thin the paint for airbrushing?

Use Tamiya X-20A Thinner. A starting ratio of 1:1 (paint to thinner) is recommended, but adjust to suit your airbrush and desired finish.

How many coats should I apply?

Apply thin coats, usually two to three coats, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next.

How long does the paint take to dry?

Drying time depends on humidity and temperature, but the paint usually dries to the touch within 30 minutes. Allow at least an hour between coats.

What is the best way to clean my airbrush after using this paint?

Disassemble the airbrush and clean all parts with Tamiya X-20A Thinner or water, depending on the paint.

Can I mix Tamiya XF-7 Flat Red with other Tamiya paints?

Yes, Tamiya acrylic paints are generally mixable, allowing you to create custom colors. Experiment with small quantities first.

How should I store unused paint?

Store the paint in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Ensure the bottle is tightly sealed to prevent the paint from drying out.

Troubleshooting

Paint is clumping or drying too quickly.

Ensure proper thinning with Tamiya X-20A Thinner. Adjust the ratio as needed. Make sure you're working in a well-ventilated area.

Paint is not adhering to the surface.

Ensure the model is primed correctly. Clean the model surface before painting, and apply the paint in thin layers.

Airbrush clogging

Thin the paint adequately. Clean the airbrush nozzle regularly during application. If clogging persists, disassemble and clean the airbrush thoroughly.
