Setup, Compatibility & Care
Proper installation begins with ensuring the substructure is level and dry. For exterior cladding, always allow for a rain-screen ventilation gap behind the boards to prevent moisture buildup. Use stainless steel nails or screws to avoid the black streaking that can occur with reactive metals.
Regarding care, you have two distinct paths:
- Natural Aging: Allow the wood to weather naturally. It will turn a characteristic silvery-grey over several months, requiring minimal maintenance beyond occasional cleaning with mild soap and water.
- Preservation: To maintain the deep, golden-brown color, apply a high-quality UV-inhibiting exterior cedar oil. It is recommended to perform a light sanding and re-application of oil every 1–3 years depending on local sun exposure.
