Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Getting started with your Fiskars Scissor Sharpener is incredibly simple:
- Unpack: Remove the sharpener from its packaging.
- Ready to Use: It's pre-assembled and requires no additional setup, batteries, or power.
Compatibility
This sharpener is designed to work with:
- Standard Straight-Edge Scissors: Most household, craft, office, and sewing scissors with straight blades.
- Right and Left-Handed Scissors: The symmetrical design accommodates both types of scissors.
It is not compatible with:
- Serrated Blades: The design is not suitable for sharpening serrated edges.
- Pinking Shears: These require specialized sharpening techniques.
- Shears with Large Pivots: Some very large or specialized shears may not fit into the sharpening slot.
- Knives or Other Blades: This tool is exclusively for scissors.
Care & Maintenance
Proper care will ensure the longevity and effectiveness of your sharpener:
- Cleaning: After use, gently tap out any metal dust or debris that may have accumulated in the sharpening slot. You can also use a dry brush or compressed air for thorough cleaning.
- Storage: Store the sharpener in a dry place, away from extreme temperatures and moisture. Keep it in a drawer or a designated toolbox to prevent accidental damage.
- Avoid Drops: While durable, dropping the sharpener on hard surfaces could potentially damage the sharpening elements.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the sharpening elements for any signs of wear. While designed to be long-lasting, heavy use over time will eventually dull the sharpening surface itself. Info needed: [Guidance on when to replace the sharpener or if sharpening elements are replaceable].
