Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup:
Before first use, wash the wok with hot, soapy water and dry thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the entire interior surface. Place the wok on a stovetop over medium heat for a few minutes until the oil just begins to smoke, then let it cool. Repeat this seasoning process 2-3 times. This creates a natural non-stick surface.
Compatibility:
This wok features a flat base, making it compatible with:
- Gas stovetops
- Induction cooktops
- Electric coil and smooth-top stoves
- Ovens
Care and Cleaning:
- After each use: Clean the wok while it is still warm (but not hot). Use hot water and a stiff brush or sponge to remove food residue. Avoid using harsh detergents or abrasive scrubbers, as they can strip the seasoning.
- Stubborn residues: For stuck-on food, simmer some water in the wok for a few minutes to loosen it, then scrape gently. A salt scrub can also be effective for tougher spots.
- Drying: Crucially, dry the wok immediately and completely after washing. Place it back on low heat on the stovetop for a few minutes to ensure all moisture evaporates.
- Oiling: Once completely dry and slightly warm, apply a very thin layer of cooking oil to the interior surface with a paper towel. This protects the cast iron from rust.
- Storage: Store in a dry place. If stacking with other cookware, place a paper towel inside to protect the surface and absorb any residual moisture.
