The Victron Energy Argodiode 80-2SC is an essential component for marine and automotive electrical systems, designed for users who need to charge two independent battery banks from a single alternator source. Its primary benefit is the ability to isolate battery banks to prevent cross-discharge while ensuring both are charged efficiently using high-quality Schottky diodes. A key caveat to consider is that the device inherently introduces a slight voltage drop, which may necessitate adjustments to your alternator's regulator or charging profile to ensure the batteries reach a 100% state of charge.

While it is technically possible, lithium batteries often require higher charging voltages. We recommend checking if your alternator's charge profile is compatible with the voltage drop this isolator introduces.
The Argodiode uses traditional diode technology, which is more affordable but has a higher voltage drop than the more expensive ArgoFET models.
Most diode isolators are wired in-line and do not require a separate chassis ground, though you should always verify the specific wiring diagram provided with your unit.
The Argodiode is designed for universal voltage compatibility, but you must ensure the current does not exceed the 80 A rating at the specific voltage being used.
No, the diodes act as a check valve, preventing current from flowing back from the batteries into the alternator.
The voltage drop across the diodes may trick your alternator into stopping early. You may need to increase the alternator's output voltage or use an external charge controller.
While some warmth is normal due to diode operation, ensure there is adequate airflow around the unit. If it is too hot to touch, check for loose terminal connections or excessive current draw exceeding 80 A.
Installation should be performed by someone familiar with DC electrical systems. Use M6 ring terminals to connect the alternator output to the input stud of the isolator, and then connect the output studs to the respective battery positive terminals.
Ensure that you use high-quality, appropriately gauged cabling to match the 80 A capacity of the unit. Periodically inspect the M6 stud connections to ensure they remain tight, as loose connections can cause high resistance and localized heating. Keep the unit in a well-ventilated area, as the diodes naturally generate some heat during operation.
