Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup:
Before first use, wash the casserole dish with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Dry completely with a soft cloth. For enhanced longevity and non-stick properties, apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the interior and exterior surfaces, then heat gently on the stovetop or in a low oven for a short period before the first cooking cycle.
Compatibility:
This cast iron casserole is compatible with all stovetop types, including:
- Electric
- Gas
- Ceramic
- Halogen
- Induction
It is also oven safe up to 260°C (500°F), including the stainless steel lid knob.
Care and Cleaning:
- Hand Wash Recommended: To maintain the integrity of the enamel coating, hand wash the casserole with warm water and mild dish soap. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh detergents that could scratch the surface.
- Stubborn Food Residue: For stuck-on food, fill the pot with warm water and let it soak for a few minutes. Gently scrape with a non-metallic utensil or use a specialized cast iron cleaner if necessary.
- Drying: Always dry the casserole completely with a soft cloth immediately after washing to prevent rust or water spots.
- Storage: Store in a dry place. If stacking, place a protective cloth or paper towel between the casserole and other cookware to prevent scratches.
- Avoid Extreme Temperature Changes: Do not plunge a hot casserole into cold water, as this can cause thermal shock and damage the enamel.
