The Neilsen Cylinder Leak Down Tester is an essential diagnostic tool for automotive technicians and DIY mechanics looking to pinpoint the root cause of engine compression loss in both petrol and diesel vehicles. By pressurizing individual cylinders, it helps identify leaking valves, worn piston rings, or damaged head gaskets; however, users should note that an external compressed air source is required for operation.

Yes, the Neilsen CT3615 is designed to function on both petrol and diesel engines, provided you use the correct adaptor size.
The kit is rated for up to 6.8 bar or 100 psi. You should start at a lower pressure and increase as needed to identify the leak.
Yes, the kit includes adaptors specifically designed to be compatible with single and multi-valve cylinder head configurations.
Yes, the 7-piece kit is typically supplied in a storage case to keep the adaptors and gauge organized.
Testing while the cylinder is not at TDC will result in inaccurate readings, as the valves will not be fully closed, causing pressure to escape through the ports.
Ensure the air compressor is turned on and the regulator is providing at least 10-20 psi; check all hose connections for firm seating.
Verify the thread size of your engine's spark plug or glow plug and cross-reference with the provided M10-M24 adaptors.
Check the O-ring seals on the adaptor hose; if the O-ring is cracked or flattened, it may allow air to escape before entering the cylinder.
Before starting, ensure your air compressor is set to the appropriate pressure rating, not exceeding 100 psi (6.8 bar). Select the correct threaded adaptor (M10, M12, M14, or M18/M24) that matches your vehicle's engine specifications. Always hand-tighten the adaptors into the cylinder head to prevent cross-threading the engine block. After use, disconnect the hoses carefully and store the kit in a dry, clean environment. Wipe down the gauge and adaptors with a clean, lint-free cloth to prevent debris from contaminating the internal valves of the tester. Avoid dropping the gauge, as internal calibration can be affected by shock.
