Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your Wintersweet thrives, start by planting in a sunny, sheltered spot that is protected from cold, biting winds. The soil should be fertile and well-drained to prevent root rot, especially during wetter months.
- Planting: Dig a hole twice the width of the 2-litre pot and ensure the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil surface.
- Watering: While the shrub is low-maintenance once established, provide regular water during the first growing season, especially in dry spells.
- Pruning: Prune immediately after the flowers have faded. Focus on removing old or congested stems to encourage new growth, which will carry the following season's blooms.
- Feeding: Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to support the development of lush, glossy foliage.
