This guide is for backyard bird enthusiasts who want to feed their feathered friends without attracting squirrels or larger nuisance birds. The key benefit is providing a protected feeding environment for smaller birds, with a potential caveat being the reduced access for larger bird species. These feeders feature a heavy-duty cast iron cage designed to deter squirrels and larger birds, ensuring that seed is accessible only to smaller birds. They are versatile for hanging from branches, hooks, brackets, or feeding stations.

The heavy-duty cast iron cage is designed to be highly effective against squirrels and larger birds, allowing only smaller birds to access the seed.
This feeder is ideal for smaller birds such as finches, chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, and sparrows. Larger birds like jays or pigeons will be excluded by the cage.
It is recommended to clean the feeder every 1-2 weeks to maintain hygiene and prevent the spread of disease among birds. More frequent cleaning may be necessary in very humid conditions.
Yes, the heavy-duty cast iron construction is designed to withstand various weather conditions. However, it's good practice to bring it in during severe storms if possible.
The cage design is primarily a deterrent. If a larger bird repeatedly accesses it, ensure the hanging distance from jump-off points is sufficient and the cage structure is sound.
The feeder features a heavy-duty cast iron cage and is typically made with durable materials suitable for outdoor use.
Ensure the feeder is hung at least 10 feet away from any potential jumping points like trees, fences, or walls. Check that the cage mesh is intact and that larger birds are not entering.
Allow a few days for birds to become accustomed to the new feeder. Ensure the seed is fresh and appealing. Try placing the feeder near other established bird activity.
Increase the frequency of cleaning. Ensure the feeder is completely dry before refilling. Use a mild soap and water solution for cleaning and rinse very well.
Inspect the hanging wire or hook for damage. Consider reinforcing the hanging point with a stronger carabiner or S-hook if necessary.
