FAQs

When is the best time to plant these tulips?

Plant these bulbs in the autumn months, specifically between October and December, before the ground freezes.

Can I grow these in pots?

Yes, 'Happy Generation' tulips perform very well in patio containers provided there is sufficient drainage.

How deep should I plant the bulbs?

Plant them at a depth of two to three times the actual height of the bulb.

What should I do with the foliage after flowering?

Leave the foliage alone until it dies back naturally; it is essential for the plant to store energy for next year.

Are these good for cutting?

Absolutely, they make excellent cut flowers for indoor arrangements.

Troubleshooting

Bulbs failing to emerge in spring

Check for poor soil drainage, which may have caused the bulbs to rot, or excessive moisture during the winter dormant phase.

Flowers are smaller than expected

Ensure the bulbs are planted in a spot with full sun and verify that the foliage was allowed to die back naturally the previous year to store enough energy.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

  1. Planting Timing: Plant bulbs between October and December, before the ground freezes.
  2. Soil Conditions: Choose a location with well-draining soil to prevent bulb decay.
  3. Depth and Spacing: Plant bulbs at a depth of two to three times their height and space them 10 cm apart.
  4. Maintenance: Water thoroughly immediately after planting and apply a layer of compost or mulch to enhance drainage and nutrient availability.
  5. Post-Bloom Care: Allow the foliage to die back completely after flowering; this process is vital as the leaves feed the bulb for the following season's growth.
