FAQs
Can this cable be used indoors?
Yes, while designed for outdoor durability, it can also be used for indoor network runs.
What speed can I expect with this Cat 6 cable?
This Cat 6 cable is capable of supporting Gigabit Ethernet speeds (up to 1000 Mbps). Actual speeds depend on your network equipment and the overall network configuration.
How do I connect this cable?
This cable requires appropriate RJ45 connectors and faceplates. For full copper cables, it is recommended to use faceplates and ensure proper termination techniques are followed to maintain signal integrity.
Is the cable shielded?
The description highlights a divider that separates twisted pairs to reduce crosstalk, but it does not explicitly mention external shielding (like UTP or STP). It is designed for robustness and signal clarity through its internal construction.
What does 'Fluke Tested' mean for this cable?
Fluke testing verifies that the cable meets specific performance standards for its category (Cat 6), including checking length, resistance, insertion loss, and frequency response, ensuring it performs as advertised.
Can I bury this cable directly in the ground?
Yes, this cable is waterproof and designed for direct burial underground, as well as being UV resistant for outdoor exposure.
Troubleshooting
Slow network speeds or intermittent connection
Verify that the cable is fully seated in the connectors and faceplates. Ensure the entire network, including connected devices, supports gigabit speeds. Check for any kinks or sharp bends in the cable run. Confirm that the correct 7mm cable clips have been used to avoid crushing the cable.
Cable does not power devices (e.g., PoE cameras)
Ensure the Power over Ethernet (PoE) source and the receiving device are compatible and functioning correctly. Check that the cable connections are securely made on both ends.
Visible damage to the cable sheath
If the PE sheath is significantly damaged, especially if the cable is buried or exposed to harsh weather, it is recommended to replace the affected section to prevent water ingress and maintain performance. Ensure repairs are made with waterproof connectors and techniques.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Highly durable and weather-resistant for outdoor use.
- Supports high gigabit speeds for demanding network needs.
- Reduced crosstalk ensures cleaner signal transmission.
- Fluke tested for verified performance and reliability.
- Can be buried underground, offering installation flexibility.
Cons
- Requires specific installation considerations for full copper cables (e.g., faceplates).
- Approximately 7mm diameter may require specific cable clips.
- Performance dependent on the overall network infrastructure.
Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions
When installing the kenable Cat 6 outdoor cable, ensure that connections are made using appropriate connectors and faceplates designed for full copper cables to maintain optimal signal integrity. The cable's approximately 7mm diameter means you will need 7mm cable clips for securing it. Due to its robust construction and waterproof nature, it can be run along walls, buried directly in the ground, or used in conduit. Ensure all connections are properly terminated and protected from direct water ingress, even though the cable itself is waterproof. For best results and to maintain gigabit speeds, ensure the rest of your network infrastructure (router, switches, network cards) also supports Cat 6 and gigabit Ethernet.
Care: Periodically inspect the cable's exterior for any physical damage. Clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth if necessary. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
