FAQs

How much substrate do I need?

The amount depends on the size of your enclosure and the desired substrate depth. Aim for at least 2-4 inches of substrate, and possibly more for a larger dragon.

How often should I clean the substrate?

Spot clean daily or as needed. Replace the entire substrate every 2-4 months, or sooner if necessary.

Can I use this substrate with other reptiles?

ProRep Beardie Life is specifically designed for Bearded Dragons. While it may be suitable for other desert-dwelling reptiles, it's best to research your specific pet's needs.

Can I use live plants with this substrate?

Yes, live plants are compatible. It is recommended to keep them in pots within the substrate.

How do I create a damp area for shedding?

Spray a specific section of the substrate to create a localized damp area where the dragon can shed comfortably.

Is this substrate safe if my dragon eats it?

ProRep Beardie Life is designed to minimize impaction risks, but it is not recommended that your dragon eats a large quantity of the substrate. If this happens, monitor your dragon's health, and contact a vet if you have any concerns.

Where can I buy ProRep Beardie Life Substrate?

ProRep Beardie Life Substrate is available at most pet stores and online retailers specializing in reptile supplies.

Troubleshooting

Substrate appears dry.

Mist the substrate with water to increase humidity in the enclosure. You can also create a localized damp area.

Bearded Dragon not digging or burrowing.

Ensure the substrate depth is sufficient for digging. Add more substrate if necessary.

Enclosure smells bad.

Remove any soiled substrate and spot-clean the area. Replace the substrate if the odor persists.

Difficulty maintaining humidity.

Increase the frequency of misting or the size of the water dish. Ensure proper ventilation to prevent excessive dryness.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Enclosure Preparation: Spread ProRep Beardie Life across the bottom of your Bearded Dragon's enclosure. The depth of the substrate should be appropriate for your dragon's size and digging preferences.
Decor Placement: Arrange rocks, branches, and other decor to create hides and visual barriers. This will allow your dragon to feel secure.
Humidity Control: Monitor humidity levels and adjust as needed. You can create a localized damp area by spraying a section of the substrate. Ensure that there is a gradient of humidity.
Cleaning: Regularly spot clean the substrate to remove waste. Replace the substrate entirely as needed, typically every 2-4 months or when it becomes heavily soiled.
Compatibility: Suitable for most Bearded Dragon enclosures. Compatible with live plants (ideally in pots).
Water: Always provide fresh, clean water in a shallow dish.
