Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions
Setup:
These secateurs are ready to use straight out of the packaging. Ensure the blades are clean and free of any protective coating or debris before the first use. Familiarise yourself with the stepped locking catch mechanism; typically, it involves sliding the catch to lock the blades open or closed, or to set the desired cutting width position.
Compatibility:
These bypass secateurs are designed for cutting live plant stems up to a maximum diameter of 15mm (5/8 inch). They are compatible with a wide range of garden plants, including flowers, young shrubs, and herbaceous perennials. They are *not* compatible with hard, dry wood, thick branches, or materials other than plant stems.
Care:
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe the blades clean with a soft, damp cloth to remove sap and debris. For tougher residue, a mild soap and water solution can be used, followed by thorough drying.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a light machine oil to the pivot point and blades to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust. This is especially important after cleaning or before long-term storage.
- Sharpening: The high carbon steel blades can be sharpened using a sharpening stone or file. Maintain a consistent angle to restore the blade's edge.
- Storage: Store the secateurs in a dry place, preferably with the blades locked closed to protect them and prevent accidental cuts. Avoid storing in damp environments.
