FAQs

Is this pot suitable for outdoor use?

This planter is designed for indoor use. Exposure to harsh frost or extreme outdoor weather could potentially damage the ceramic glaze over time.

Does the pot come with a drainage hole?

These planters are designed as high-quality decorative cachepots. We recommend keeping your plant in its plastic nursery insert for optimal drainage control.

Will my pot look exactly like the one in the picture?

No. Due to the reactive glaze firing process, every pot will feature its own unique color and texture variations.

How heavy is the 18cm planter?

The 18cm model weighs approximately 1.3 kg.

What is the material used?

The planter is constructed from high-quality, durable ceramic.

Troubleshooting

Water pooling inside the decorative pot

Remove the plant and ensure it is contained within a nursery pot with drainage holes, or add a layer of leca or gravel at the bottom of the ceramic pot to act as a drainage reservoir.

Exterior surface looks different than the product photo

This is normal. The reactive glaze firing process creates unique chemical reactions on every piece, ensuring each pot is a unique, one-of-a-kind item.

Stains or water marks on the glaze

Use a mild soap and water solution with a soft microfiber cloth to gently buff away mineral deposits.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Unique, artisanal appearance due to the reactive glaze
  • High-quality ceramic material provides excellent durability
  • Official Kew Gardens endorsement adds a touch of prestige
  • Sturdy construction prevents tipping with larger plants

Cons

  • Finish variations mean the product received will not exactly match catalog photos
  • Ceramic material is breakable if dropped or impacted against hard surfaces
  • Heavy weight may be challenging for frequent shelf rearranging

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To keep your Kew Reactive Glaze Planter in pristine condition, follow these recommendations:

  1. Surface Protection: Always place a felt pad or cork mat under the base if positioning on wood or delicate surfaces to prevent scratching.
  2. Drainage Management: Since these pots are primarily decorative, use a plastic nursery pot inside the ceramic shell to allow for proper drainage and easy plant rotation.
  3. Cleaning: Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust. Avoid using abrasive scouring pads that could dull the reactive glaze finish.
  4. Weight Considerations: Ensure the shelf or table designated for the planter can support the weight of the ceramic unit plus the added weight of wet soil and the plant itself.
